about

This song reflects on the senseless death of 16-year old Amy Joyner-Francis at Wilmington, DE's, Howard High School in April 2016. By all accounts she was a peacemaker and died for it.

lyrics

Just a Song (Amy Joyner-Francis RIP 4/21/16) (Sam Arthur)

Songs exist to celebrate, memorialize, commemorate;
To focus for us and relate the things that matter most
More than mental pictures drawn or pegs to hang our thoughts upon
They catch a scene before it’s gone and hope to hold it close

You were young and you were strong
Your road was not walked with us long
Now you’re just a song

I never knew you when you lived, with energy and love to give
Who knew your mama would outlive your fragile human frame?
Part of a community who said you strove for unity
Until the final mutiny of death against your aim

You were young and you were strong
Your road was not walked with us long
Now you’re just a song

Candles, tears and flowers blur reality of what you were
Future hopes and gifts deferred; I guess we’ll never know
Frozen now in memory, replacing what will never be
The rest of us walk silently and hear the cold wind blow

You were young and you were strong
Your road was not walked with us long
Now you’re just a song
Now you’re just a song

They asked Lisa to sing with them because their voices both stunk and hers was very good. The name "The June Bugs" was chosen after an extensive free-association-by-email. ... more
