about

This beautiful song was in our old hymnbook when I was a kid. I didn't think about it much until I heard it performed at a funeral for the infant child of my coworker. The lady who sang it must have not known the family well; otherwise I don't see how she could have made it through without breaking down.

lyrics

Precious Jewels (When He Cometh) (Cushing, Root; public domain)

1. When He cometh, when He cometh, To make up His jewels,
All his bright ones, His fair ones, His loved and His own

Cho: Like the stars of the morning, His bright crown adorning,
They will shine in their beauty, Bright gems for His crown.

2. He will gather, He will gather, The gems for His kingdom;
All the pure ones, all the bright ones, His loved and His own

3. Little children, little children, Who love their Redeemer,
Are the jewels, precious jewels, His loved and His own.

They asked Lisa to sing with them because their voices both stunk and hers was very good. The name "The June Bugs" was chosen after an extensive free-association-by-email. ... more
